Opening Reception: Saturday, April 14th, 6 - 8pm

On a road trip to Quincy, Illinois five years ago to recover my girlfriend's deceased mother's collection of doorknobs and such, I happened into a paint store. I asked the store clerk if he had any paints that still contained VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). He did have something stored away high atop a shelf in the back room. "I was welcome to tale a look, if I liked", he said. To my surprise, what was sitting on that dusty top shelf was none other than the infamous Sateen Dura-Luxe. Yes, you heard that correct, the infamous paint that was used by none other than the one-eyed Abstract Expressionist Painter Rabo Karabekian! This paint was supposed to be extinct! I purchased all three gallons. For those of you who don't know, Sateen Dura-Luxe was a Post WW2 miracle paint. They claimed it would outlast the smile on Mona Lisa! Well, as poor Rabo found out, like many of the Post War Miracles, it failed miserably. His paintings are being swept off of museum floors constantly, and bewildered collectors are waking up to find that their cherished purchases have disappeared. So, in the spirit of human adventure, I created all of the works you see in this show with the only remaining gallons of Sateen Dura-Luxe. I have at least two and a half gallons left, so any artists who would like to give it a go are welcome. This could be considering cutting edge, so get on board now! The Art World is a sucker for gimmicks..... Also, considering the social and political climate we live in I must ask anyone purchasing my work to sign a waiver, as I cannot be held accountable if my artwork disappears.
